Positive: The hotel was very cool and historic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The best part of the hotel was that it was located in the heart of Salem which made it easy to walk to all of our travel destinations.

Negative: I feel misled about the size of the room we booked, but that says more about Booking.com and my own failure to research before booking. Our room was extremely small and cramped so we didn't have much space to move around, shower, etc. The bed was comfy and the room had historic charm, but the space was so small it ruined the experience. Additionally, the walls are very thin. We could hear nearly every conversation in the room next to ours. We were lucky to be on an end so we only had one neighbor. Luckily they weren't too loud or else it would have been impossible to relax. Outside of that, the hotel didn't have a ton of amenities I'm used to in other hotels. They had coffee and tea for a few hours in the morning, but beyond that they didn't have any complementary drinks or snacks, no complementary breakfast (which I did know in advance), no gyms/exercise spaces like I usually have while travelling. None of these things were really terrible, but lacking those amenities made the experience feel lackluster compared to our normal hotels while travelling. The only truly awful issue we had was lack of hot water. At night there weren't many issues getting hot water to shower, but in the morning our water was ICE COLD. I had to let the shower run for about 20 minutes before it was even warm enough to step under the water.

Positive: I like the history behind this hotel and loved how close it was to everything. I literally walked everywhere and it was great. The restaurant has good food and drinks. The place was clean and cozy. Staff were friendly.
